Marvel, DC, and Image. The Big 3 and my Personal Favorite Characters

Image
SPOILERS in the post........Read at your own risk!!!!!!!!!        We all have a favorite hero or villain from Marvel or DC, and sometimes we may even have a favorite from another company that's not as well known such as Image comics. For me, I recently started getting into Image comics' cast of characters such Invincible, Spawn, Pitt, Savage Dragon, and of course, everyone from the Walking Dead. While the movies, shows, and games, did help boost my interest, some of them I found out on my own and today I'd like to talk about what my favorite characters are from each of these companies that I have grown to love. Marvel :      Now, after viewing the pictures provided to you, you may be wondering, "why these characters in particular?" Growing up, I always felt bad for certain characters like Hulk, Sentry, Isaiah Bradley, and Spider-Man (Peter Parker and Miles), as they tried to do good in the world but every time they did, society shunned and hated them despite savin

Anti-Heroes

Image
Anti-hero : -  a central character in a story, movie, or drama who lacks conventional heroic attributes. ( Bet you were surprised by these examples weren't you? )      When we think of an antihero we usually think of Red Hood, Punisher, Deadpool, Hulk, or Wolverine. You may be wondering, why are antiheroes so loved? Well today, I'm going to help you get an understanding of what they are and why they have gotten so much attention.      Antiheroes have become widely popular due to the success of comic films and Netflix shows such as Deadpool 1 and 2, Logan, and the Punisher Netflix series. Because of this, comic sales went through the roof, and people started getting into their most popular stories. But of course, it doesn't stop there. People find antiheroes to be interesting because of how they are willing to save people/the world through any means necessary, including killing the villain. This gets peoples' attention as we are always used to heroes being good and not

Feeling Sympathetic for the Villain

Image
Marvel and DC have a plethora of villains on their rosters, some of which are the most downright sadistic, blood-thirsty, and psychotic characters you will ever read about. However, there are some who stand out for the reason of having an origin story or moment in their career that you can't help but agree with them and on occasion, feel bad for them. These villains usually rank up high with the more sadistic ones when it comes to being memorable to fans of comics in any medium. The most classic examples of sympathetic villains are the Batman villains Mister Freeze and Harvey Dent a.k.a. Two-Face, The  Spider-man foe the Lizard, and the X-Men villain Magneto. (The poster child of a tragic comic book villain) When it comes to Mister Freeze, you have probably heard about or seen the Emmy-winning Batman: The Animated Series episode titled "Heart of Ice" in which we are introduced to the tragic character Victor Fries. Victor was a gifted cryogenic scientist who was happily ma

What Makes a Good Superhero?

Image
When you read a comic book for the first time, you are probably going to be excited to see how the main protagonist will become the hero of the story. Along the way, you'll see them be put through the wringer in terms of personal growth, whether that's through the death(s) of people close to him or innocent people in the middle of a battle, to learning hard lessons about being a hero in a world where people hate them despite sacrificing so much to keep them safe. Qualities like this not only make a hero relatable but also makes me sympathize with them.      Heroes that have relatable qualities make for interesting characters to me as you want to root for them to succeed and you feel bad for them when they save an innocent person from dying but end up being ridiculed for it (*cough* Spider-Man *cough*). The heroes that stand out to me that fit these qualities are the following: Captain America  (Loved by many and is seen as a shining example of heroism) Spider-Man (Poster c

Making a Story Dark While Having a Light Side

Image
(Perfect Examples) If you read the title and have seen my previous posts, you probably already know where I'm going with this and if not, sit back, relax, and get ready for a long explanation.      When watching films based around comics or books in general that have stories with dark elements or are dark in general, I feel that it is a breath of fresh air to see a comic or novel based movie have a serious and dark feel to it, but also have some moments of levity as to not make the audience feel depressed all the way through. However, I sometimes like to see a comedic movie that has jokes that are dark or have NSFW elements to them without feeling like it's out of place. This has been one of the biggest debates between fans of MARVEL and DC and other comic book companies that have had film adaptations as some want stories that are darker as to show a more serious side to being a hero or villain like the films Watchmen and, but others want an adaptation that is light-hearted and
